every mother's day weekend, my mom, sister, aunt + i participate in the 5k run/walk "race in the park" hosted by the ct breast health initiative. the organization raises money to fund local breast cancer research. it's an amazing event; thousands of people crowd a park in new britain to offer support, love, memory. it's also a really great opportunity for the four of us to spend the day together. (oh yes, and because we were late + had to run to the starting line, i can cross #11 off of this list!)
this year, i wanted to make a short video showing what it's like to participate in the run/walk. i want to urge you to get involved in any local events like this; the families, the women that come together, rallying around adversity, challenge + the blessed opportunity to overcome are incredible people to be around. my mom did some filming while my sister + i ran, and i filmed during the walk. the band fun. was kind enough to let me use their song "carry on" for the video -- i thought it fit the event really well. photos from the day are coming soon!
a note about video...since making this film + exploring the video settings on my dslr, i've become more + more interested in making short films. my dad + i have been talking a lot about it lately -- he makes awesome videos + has even agreed to let me share one of his here in a few weeks. my skill level is not where i'd like to be yet, that's for sure, but i'm having an amazing time + can't wait to get more practice + hopefully improve!
